[ You sleep, the ground cold beneath your cheek. The ground is hard as stone, cold marble beneath a fine layer of dust that doesn't come anywhere near acting as a cushion. The dust stirs with your breathing.

It takes a moment for him to realize the voice hasn't said anything since, and if this really is ghosts it's entirely possible the whole point is distraction, and there was never anyone to rescue in the first place.

The property is edged in dark wrought iron fencing, placed too closely together for either of them to get out through and topped with sharp spikes.
